State Secretary mag. Monika Kirbiš Rojs addressed the participants of the conference Tourism Development 4.0 hosted by the company Arctur, d.o.o. on the closure of the project Tourism 4.0 TRL 3-6. She presented the opportunities for the tourism sector under Slovenia’s National Recovery and Resilience Plan (RRP).

State Secretary said that Slovenia’s RRP will soon be evaluated by the European Commission (EC). The document makes EUR 2.5 billion of EU funding available for the recovery of the society and the economy. About 22% of the available funds will be allocated to digitalisation and 43% for green objectives. Within one month of EC’s assessment the RRP will be approved by the Council of the EU. ‘We plan to publish the first calls for proposals already this fall or at the close of 2021,’ she said.

Under the RRP EUR 127 million of grants is reserved for the transformation of Slovenia’s tourism, investments in infrastructure in the field of tourism and cultural heritage. The reform-oriented section of the RRP plans the adoption of the Strategy for the Digital Transformation of Slovenian Tourism and Strategy for the Sustainable Growth of Slovenian Tourism 2022-2028. ‘We’re very pleased that we succeeded in including investments in tourism and culture into the RRP. Slovenia is one of the few countries that decided to do so. The sector of tourism and culture also suffered significant consequences during the COVID-19 epidemic. In the past these two areas did not receive sufficient funding and we intend to make up for the lack of support,’ she underlined.
