Minister Dr Logar in online call with Foreign Minister of North Macedonia Dimitrov

Today, Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr Anže Logar and Minister of Foreign Affairs of North Macedonia Nikola Dimitrov held an online meeting during which they commended the excellent bilateral relations.

The ministers agreed that Slovenia and North Macedonia are important economic partners and political allies, and advocated to build on the current positive economic trends and further develop political dialogue.

Touching on the current situation and the efforts of both countries to tackle the pandemic they exchanged views on national measures adopted to mitigate the crisis caused by COVID-19. According to both ministers, solidarity between Member States of the EU and the countries of the region was paramount to containing the outbreak. They went on to commend the EU’s response under which a EUR 3.3 billion financial assistance was rapidly allocated to the Western Balkan countries.    

Ministers also discussed the EU enlargement process. Minister Logar expressed satisfaction with the decision of the EU to launch the accession negotiations with North Macedonia, adopted by heads of state and government in March, underscoring Slovenia’s unwavering support and willingness to assist North Macedonia on its European path. Slovenia will continue to pay special attention to the enlargement process, especially during next year’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
