Minister Aleš Hojs assumes office as Minister of the Interior

The outgoing Minister of the Interior Boštjan Poklukar handed over power to the incoming Minister of the Interior Aleš Hojs on 14 March 2020. They reviewed the matters concerning the sector and signed a record of the meeting.

Summing up the key achievements of his term of office, Boštjan Poklukar emphasized the overall heavy impact of illegal migration. He pointed out the improvement of economic status of police officers, especially higher salaries that were agreed in the outcome of the strike agreement. Poklukar noted that that the police purchased new equipment, police vehicles and a police helicopter. The active employment policy was successful and new recruitments in the police service prevailed over the outflow of workers. The outgoing minister also touched upon the coronavirus crisis and the measures enforced on the Slovenia-Italy border: »These are stringent and severe restrictions, but they are absolutely necessary to protect public health which is our number one priority.«

The new Minister of the Interior Aleš Hojs is aware of the huge responsibility he was entrusted with, especially in the context of the spread of the novel coronavirus: »Our country has never since independence been confronted with such a serious and critical situation, but I am confident that this government will successfully manage this major challenge in the months to come.« The new Minister called on citizens to follow strictly the instructions and guidelines meted by the government. »The situation is serious, things are critical, but I believe that, as in 1990-91, we will be able to withstand the attack and emerge victorious« highlighted Minister Hojs.
