IRAN - Travel advisory

  • Ministry of Foreign Affairs
Due to the spread of the COVID-19 and the related restrictive measures adopted by the authorities, the MFA advises against all travel to the country. Slovenian citizens temporarily staying in Iran are advised to leave the country as soon as possible.

The MFA advises against travel to areas bordering Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistan: the 100-km strip along the Iranian-Afghan border and the 10-km strip along the Iranian-Iraqi border, and the area around the border with Pakistan. The MFA advises against travel to the Hormozgan Province in the Persian Gulf.

In eastern Iran, travellers are advised to use the main transport routes and refrain from travelling at night, especially outside large settlements.

The south-eastern provinces of Sistan and Baluchestan, and Kerman are extremely dangerous for foreigners due to a history of kidnappings of tourists and travellers by criminal organisations. The MFA advises against all travel to both provinces.

For security reasons, avoid any crowds, public gatherings or protests.

The level of petty crime in Iran is relatively low, but the MFA advises to practice usual precautions to avoid theft in tourist areas.
