MFA on the Iranian missile attack on Iraqi military bases

  • Ministry of Foreign Affairs
Slovenia condemns the Iranian missile attack on Iraqi military bases where the Global Coalition against Daesh forces are stationed at the invitation of the Iraqi government, and calls on all parties involved to refrain from any activities that could lead to further escalation in the region.

The Slovenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs keeps in contact with the Allies and closely follows current developments in Iraq and Iran. Since security and protection of coalition troops and civilian personnel are top priorities, the Allies decided to relocate the members of the Slovenian Armed Forces due to the worsened security situation. The necessary steps for the relocation of the troops to a safer location are coordinated with Germany, which is Slovenia’s partner in the Operation Inherent Resolve in Erbil. The MFA’s activities are carried out in compliance with its competencies.

Slovenian citizens in Iran should exercise caution and monitor the local media reports.

Slovenian Foreign Minister will attend an extraordinary meeting of the EU foreign ministers in Brussels on Friday scheduled to discuss further steps to settle the situation in the region.
