MFA on Turkish military operation in north-east Syria

  • Ministry of Foreign Affairs
Slovenia is deeply concerned about the Turkish military operation in north-east Syria. The operation could threaten the stability of the wider region and the progress achieved in the fight against Da'esh and other terrorist organizations, as well as undermines the political process to find a solution to the Syrian crisis. It also threatens the lives of the population and further exacerbates the humanitarian situation in the country, which could provoke further displacements.

Slovenia calls on Turkey to cease the unilateral military action, protect civilians and respect international humanitarian law.

Slovenia reiterates that a lasting solution to the Syrian conflict can only be achieved in a political process under the auspices of the UN and in line with the UN Security Council Resolution 2254 (2015), while respecting the territorial integrity of Syria.
