The high-level event seeks to deepen the bilateral relations and cooperation between Slovenia and African countries based on strengthened partnership and mutual understanding between Europe and Africa.

This year’s conference will focus on the topic Africa and the EU: Cooperation for a Sustainable Future. Participants will examine the role of collaborative links between Africa and Europe in accelerating progress on green transition and climate policy initiatives, and in seizing opportunities for sustained economic recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic.

The half-day conference will begin with an opening ceremony and an address by Dr Anže Logar, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Slovenia, and continue with keynote speeches delivered by Jutta Urpilainen, EU Commissioner for International Partnerships, and Prof. Victor Harison, Commissioner for Economic Affairs of the African Union.

The introductory addresses will be followed by three thematic sessions:

  1. Enhancing EU-Africa Cooperation on Climate Policy and the Green Economy;
  2. Beyond COVID-19: Shared Opportunities for Stronger Socioeconomic Recovery;
  3. Beyond COVID-19: The Role of the Private Sector.

The conference will end with a closing speech by Tone Kajzer, State Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Slovenia.

The event will also be live-streamed on the Chatham House website.
