Slovenia Weekly: Concrete solutions to development challenges

During his visit to south-eastern Slovenia, Prime Minister Janez Janša emphasised that through on-site visits, the Government is seeking practical solutions to the region's development. The Government is also working with local communities to find workable solutions to outstanding development issues. Although the region has a strong economy, high added value and low unemployment, individual municipalities face significant infrastructure and development issues. The visit resulted in concrete agreements, infrastructure projects, and new developments in education and healthcare, all of which are intended to accelerate the region's development.

Slovenia is now one step closer to hosting a stage of one of the world's most prestigious cycling events. The 2027 Giro d'Italia is set to kick off on Saturday, 8 May. On the opening day of the 110th Giro d'Italia, the cyclists will start in Trieste and cycle through Slovenian territory during the first stage. The following day, 9 May, will see the first entirely Slovenian stage of the Giro, running from Ljubljana to Koper. Hosting the race provides an exceptional opportunity for Slovenia to welcome the world's cycling elite to its roads once again, strengthening its international visibility and reputation, while creating new opportunities for Slovenia's economy, particularly in the tourism sector. The extensive media coverage will also provide a platform to showcase Slovenia's diversity, its destinations, its people and its unique experiences to a global audience.
