Slovenia Weekly: Upgraded economic growth forecast

"The economic growth forecast has been significantly upgraded, which facilitated the preparation of the revised budget proposal. The revised budget proposal is ready to be submitted for approval to the National Assembly", said Prime Minister Janez Janša at the press conference immediately after the government session.

The Office of the Government of the Republic of Slovenia for Macroeconomic Analysis and Development (IMAD) has significantly upgraded the economic growth forecast for this year. Instead of two percent, IMAD now projects a 3.8 percent growth in GDP, primarily driven by a significant acceleration in growth in the first six months of this year. An outstanding growth acceleration was recorded in the first half of the year and was based on the convergence of several factors: a strong export recovery further boosted by the setting up of new industrial capacities in the pharmaceutical and automotive sectors, the completion of major investment projects, and continued growth in household disposable income and spending. Broad-based economic growth demonstrates the resilience and adaptability of the economy in the face of increased economic and geopolitical uncertainty in the international environment. IMAD's forecast and the improvement in this year's economic trends have thus facilitated the preparation of the revised budget proposal adopted by the Government for this year.

Slovenia will celebrate UNESCO's International Day of Caves and Karst for the first time on 13 September 2026. This International Day highlights Slovenia's special role in global karstology, speleology, and the research and protection of karst heritage.
