  • An Evening with Sunita Williams and the Astronauts of Expedition 72 at the Embassy of Slovenia

    Ambassador Iztok Mirošič hosted an evening with the astronauts, featuring NASA crew members from Expedition 72 at the Embassy of Slovenia in Washington D.C. on September 17, 2025, in collaboration with Space Foundation. Part of the crew was also Sunita Williams, astronaut of Slovenian-Indian heritage from Ohio, who regularly maintains her connections with Slovenia.

  • Prime Minister Dr. Golob received the U.S. Ambassador to NATO

    Prime Minister Dr. Robert Golob met today with U.S. Ambassador to NATO Matthew G. Whitaker. At the outset, the Prime Minister highlighted the excellent and friendly relations between Slovenia and the United States, which are also reflected in their joint efforts for peace and stability in the Western Balkans.

  • International Visits to Prisons: Exchange of Knowledge and Praise for Professional and Humane Approach

    The Slovenian Prison Administration hosted two professional delegations from abroad – one from the United States of America and one from France. These visits, which took place at several prison facilities across Slovenia, were the result of close cooperation with relevant domestic and international institutions. Their purpose was to foster professional dialogue, gain insight into the prison and probation systems, and exchange good practices.

    During the 4th of July Independence Day celebrations in Washington D.C. Ambassador Iztok Mirošič had the opportunity to meet with the U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio. They briefly spoke about future cooperation and collaboration between Slovenia and the United States of America.

  • A new Slovenian language school opens at the Embassy of Slovenia in Washington for children from DC, Virginia, and Maryland

    On Saturday, June 14, 2025, the Embassy of the Republic of Slovenia in the United States hosted the ceremonial opening of the first Slovenian School for Learning the Slovenian Language for children in the DMV region (D.C.–Maryland–Virginia).

    Ambassador Iztok Mirošič met with the U.S. Acting Under Secretary for Arms Control and International Security, Brent T. Christensen at the Slovenian Embassy on June 10th. Their discussion mainly focused on the bilateral cooperation between Slovenia and the United States.

    On June 11, 2025 Ambassador Mirošič met with Congressman Richard Hudson (NC). They had a great conversation regarding the future political and economic cooperation between Slovenia and the United States, particularly on science and technology cooperation.

    On June 9, 2025 Ambassador Mirošič met with the congressman Joe Wilson to discuss strengthening U.S.–Slovenia relations. They exchanged views on key areas of cooperation, including trade and security.

    A three-day Proliferation Security Initiative (PSI) workshop, co-hosted by Slovenia and the United States of America, successfully concluded yesterday, 16 April.

    On Tuesday, March 4th, 2025 President of the Commission for Relations with Slovenes Abroad, Suzana Lep Šimenko, held an online meeting for the representatives of Slovenian associations from various U.S. states. The Ambassador of the Republic of Slovenia to the United States also joined the meeting.

  • Ambassador Mirošič on a visit in Colorado state

    Ambassador Iztok Mirošič visited Colorado state between January 22 - 24, 2025, where he officially inaugurated consulate of the Republic of Slovenia. He met with Colorado Governor Jared Polis at the State Capitol in Denver and members of the Colorado National Guard. He also visited the headquarters of the U.S. Space Command in Colorado Springs, town of Pueblo and toured the Pueblo Community College.

  • Minister Fajon at the EU Foreign Affairs Council: the EU must be united and coordinated in its relations with the US

    The Minister of Foreign and European Affairs, Tanja Fajon, attended the EU Foreign Affairs Council meeting in Brussels, where participants discussed further support for Ukraine, EU-US relations following the inauguration of Donald Trump and the situation in the Middle East. The agenda also covered developments in Georgia, Moldova and the deteriorating situation in the east of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

  • The 34th Day of Slovenian Independence and Unity at the Slovenian Embassy in Washington

    On December 10, 2024, the Ambassador hosted a reception for the Slovenian community in Washington on the occasion of the 34th Day of Slovenian Independence and Unity. Photographer Alenka Slavinec organized the opening of a photography exhibition about Lipizzaner horses, whose story is inseparably connected to Operation Cowboy, which enabled some of the horses to return to Lipica.

    The American Slovenian Education Foundation (ASEF) organized a scientific symposium in San Francisco on Slovenian scientific and technological achievements in the field of space, followed by a gala dinner marking ASEF's 10th anniversary. Ambassador Iztok Mirošič addressed the participants via video message.
