  • Signing contracts with Caritas Slovenia for emergency humanitarian response in 2025

    On the occasion of signing contracts for emergency humanitarian response, State Secretary Dr Melita Gabrič met with Secretary General of Caritas Slovenia Peter Tomažič to discuss the projects to be implemented by Caritas Slovenia in 2025 with the financial support of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs.

    Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Tanja Fajon attended an informal meeting of NATO Foreign Ministers in Antalya, focused on an in-depth discussion on key issues and elements of the June NATO Summit in The Hague. Ministers reviewed guidelines on the key ambitious priorities of the Summit aimed at maintaining the Alliance’s unity and enhancing its strength.

  • Statement by the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs on the 70th anniversary of the signing of the Austrian State Treaty

    Seventy years have passed since the signing of the Austrian State Treaty (ADP), which re-established an independent and democratic Austria. The treaty was also of fundamental importance in setting-up relations with neighbouring Slovenia. Article 7, in particular, is of major importance for Slovenia as it guarantees respect for the rights of the Slovenian minority in Austrian Carinthia and Styria.

    State Secretary Dr Melita Gabrič attended the 134th meeting of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe, which discussed the role of the organisation in the new geopolitical context as a guardian of democratic security, in particular its actions in support of Ukraine and the New Democratic Pact for Europe. They also took stock of the Reykjavik Declaration implementation.

  • State Secretary Gabrič attends EU Foreign Ministers' Meeting in Lviv on Europe Day

    On 9 May 2025, State Secretary Dr Melita Gabrič participated in the informal meeting of EU Foreign Affairs Ministers held in Lviv, Ukraine. She also took part in the meeting of the Core Group on the Establishment of a Special Tribunal for the Crime of Aggression against Ukraine.

    We, the Foreign Ministers of Iceland, Ireland, Luxembourg, Norway, Slovenia and Spain express our grave concern about the reported Israeli plans to expand its military operations in Gaza and to establish a prolonged Israeli presence in the Strip. This would mean crossing yet another line, marking a dangerous new escalation and jeopardizing any prospects of a viable Two-State solution.

  • International conference to mark the 20th anniversary of the Responsibility to Protect at the UN

    At the international academic conference titled Responsibility to Protect in Theory and Practice, Minister Tanja Fajon underlined: "There is no alternative to international law. We must all respect it, and Slovenia has consistently defended the same standards for all, without exception." The conference, held at the Faculty of Law in Ljubljana, marks the 20th anniversary of the adoption of the Responsibility to Protect (R2P) principle.

  • Minister Fajon in Vienna for consistent protection of the Slovenian national minority in Austria

    During a visit to Austria, Slovenian Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Tanja Fajon met with the new Austrian Federal Minister for European and International Affairs, Beate Meinl-Reisinger. The visit was aimed at developing good neighbourly relations between the two countries and discussing current foreign policy and EU issues, including the Western Balkans and the EU enlargement.

  • Simulation of UN bodies for young people on the International Day of Multilateralism

    24 April is the International Day of Multilateralism and Diplomacy for Peace, declared by the UN General Assembly in 2018. The Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs marked the day in a particularly special way with a simulation of international negotiations within the framework of the United Nations, conducted by university and secondary school students under the auspices of the United Nations Association of Slovenia.

  • Visit of Moroccan Foreign Minister to Slovenia and plans to open embassies in Ljubljana and Rabat

    Minister Tanja Fajon hosted Nasser Bourita, Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, on an official visit. This visit, the first of its kind at this level, is a follow-up to the dynamic and in-depth political dialogue between Slovenia and Morocco.

  • Opening of the cultural programme of LAC Days 2025 dedicated to Brazil

    The cultural programme of the 2025 Latin American and Caribbean Days opened with a screening of the acclaimed Brazilian documentary The Salt of the Earth (Sal de Terra), which chronicles the life and work of world-renowned Brazilian photographer Sebastião Salgado. The event took place at the Slovenian Cinematheque and was organised by the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, in cooperation with the embassies of Latin American and Caribbean (LAC) countries, the Slovenian Cinematheque, the Vodnik Homestead and the Konzorcij Bookstore.

  • Proliferation Security Initiative workshop

    A three-day Proliferation Security Initiative (PSI) workshop, co-hosted by Slovenia and the United States of America, successfully concluded yesterday, 16 April.

  • Minister Fajon in Baku to strengthen political and economic cooperation

    During her official visit to Azerbaijan, Minister Tanja Fajon met with President Ilham Aliyev and Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov to discuss the strengthening of cooperation between the two countries. They also discussed the draft peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan. On the sidelines of the visit, important contacts were established between representatives of Slovenian and Azerbaijani companies.

  • Slovenian ODA amounted to EUR 152 million in 2024

    In 2024, Slovenia allocated 0.23% of its gross domestic product to official development assistance. Together with funding from the European Union budget, the EU committed EUR 152 million to humanitarian aid and development cooperation projects and programmes, a nominal decrease of just over EUR 700,000 compared to a year before.
