Slovenia among top 20 places to visit in 2020 according to British media giant The Guardian
The list is based on two main criteria: the destination must be sustainable or environmentally friendly and unspoilt by mass tourism. Slovenia topped the chart, described as a land of sustainable cycling and hiking adventures in the great outdoors.
The Guardian's journalists wrote: "Slovenia's landscapes are made for adventures in the great outdoors, with 60% of the country covered by forests and boasting more than 40 parks and nature reserves."
They believe that the majority of Slovenia is still one of the least visited tourist destinations, stressing that the country places great emphasis on sustainable development.
According to the renowned newspaper, the circular Juliana Walking Trail and numerous cycling routes that are part of the Bike Slovenia project offer one-of-a-kind experiences combining outdoor activities and local cuisine.
