    152nd Regular Session of the Government of the Republic of Slovenia

    At today’s session, the Government approved the proposed changes to the pension reform and was briefed on the current defence and security policy. It also adopted the draft Act on the Publication of Acts in the Official Gazette of the Republic of Slovenia, the draft Act on School Inspection, the draft amendment to the Primary School Act, and issued a new flood regulation introducing the concept of flood and erosion resilience.

  • EU funding for sustainable mobility measures in Slovenian municipalities

    The Ministry of Cohesion and Regional Development has approved EU funding for the Call for proposals to co-finance sustainable mobility measures in the period 2023-2029. Municipalities will use the funding to develop and ensure accessible, safer and sustainable day-to-day mobility for their inhabitants. The Cohesion Fund will contribute 42.1 million euros in EU funding.

  • Opinion on the Proposal for a Declaration on the Preservation and Strengthening of the Autochthonous Slovenian Minority in Austria

    The Government of the Republic of Slovenia adopted an Opinion on the Proposal for a Declaration on the Preservation and Strengthening of the Autochthonous Slovenian National Minority in the Republic of Austria at a correspondence session. The Government welcomes the initiative of the National Assembly of the Republic of Slovenia and supports the purpose of the Declaration, which comprehensively addresses the issue of the position and exercise of the rights of the Slovenian national minority in the Austrian regions of Carinthia and Styria.

  • Foundation stone unveiled for Arnes data centre

    Construction has begun in Maribor on Arnes' data centre, which will also house a supercomputer for the artificial intelligence factory. This will be the biggest data centre in Slovenia. The foundation stone was unveiled by Prime Minister Robert Golob, Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Innovation Igor Papič and Director of the Academic and Research Network of Slovenia (Arnes) Marko Bonač.

    The Inspection for Food Safety, Veterinary and Plant Protection (IVHVVR) was today informed that due to faecal contamination of drinking water in the internal water supply system of the Maximarket business building, contaminated foodstuffs might also have been placed on the market in the premisees at that location.

    150th regular session of the Government of the Republic of Slovenia

    At today's session, the Government adopted the proposed Individual Investment Account Act, which introduces a special type of investment account designed to make investing in capital markets easier, more transparent and more cost-effective for individuals. It also approved amendments to the acts on freshwater fisheries and marine fisheries, and the Decree on municipal waste incineration.

  • Government approves proposal for third Recovery and Resilience Plan amendment

    Today, the Government approved a proposal for the third amendment to the Recovery and Resilience Plan (RRP), which the Office of the Republic of Slovenia for Recovery and Resilience will submit, together with all supporting documents, to Brussels for formal consideration. The Government will also submit the proposal to the National Assembly of the Republic of Slovenia for information.

  • Slovenian ODA amounted to EUR 152 million in 2024

    In 2024, Slovenia allocated 0.23% of its gross domestic product to official development assistance. Together with funding from the European Union budget, the EU committed EUR 152 million to humanitarian aid and development cooperation projects and programmes, a nominal decrease of just over EUR 700,000 compared to a year before.

  • Advancing Higher Education Cooperation in the Mediterranean

    The representatives of the ministries responsible for higher education from Italy, Spain, Greece, France, Malta, Cyprus, Portugal, Croatia and Slovenia, a representative of the Union for the Mediterranean and a representative of the European Commission attended a ministerial meeting at Brdo pri Kranju. This was the first event since Slovenia assumed the one-year Presidency of MED9, a group of EU Member States in the Mediterranean.

    Minister Tanja Fajon's first stop on her visit to the South Caucasus region was Armenia, where she encouraged her interlocutors to continue advancing efforts towards the normalisation of relations with neighbouring Azerbaijan.     The Ministry of Public Administration in Ljubljana is hosting the annual meeting of the Central Purchasing Bodies (CPB) Network – a European network that supports national purchasing bodies in implementing effective solutions.   • Minister Fajon calls for stronger action and return of abducted Ukrainian children at Luxembourg meeting

    At the EU Foreign Affairs Council in Luxembourg, Minister Tanja Fajon called for more decisive action to bring about a ceasefire and a lasting and just peace in Ukraine, and for the return of more than 19,000 abducted Ukrainian children: “These are war crimes and clear violations of international law. This must remain a humanitarian priority and part of the peace negotiations.”

    The Ministry of Cohesion and Regional Development has approved EU funding for the project ITI Urban Municipality of Kranj Brioni.

    Yesterday, Moody's Ratings (Moody's) affirmed Slovenia's credit rating of A3 with a positive outlook. Slovenia thus continues to enjoy the confidence of the rating agencies, which is particularly important in the current uncertain environment.

  • Minister Han and Swiss Federal Councillor Parmelin on strengthening economic cooperation

    Minister Matjaž Han hosted Swiss Federal Councillor and Minister of Economic Affairs Guy Parmelin in Ljubljana to discuss ways to enhance economic cooperation between Slovenia and Switzerland. The talks focused on deepening collaboration in key sectors, particularly the pharmaceutical industry and the space sector. During the meeting, they also signed the Support Measure Agreement under the second Swiss Contribution.

  • State Secretary Gabrič at the Antalya Ministerial Meeting for the Implementation of the Two-State Solution and Lasting Peace in the Middle East

    In Antalya, State Secretary Melita Gabrič attended the extended format meeting of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation-League of Arab States Gaza Contact Group. The meeting hosted by Türkiye was a follow-up to the meetings of the Global Alliance for the Implementation of the Two-State Solution and is also attended by representatives of Norway, Ireland, Spain and the EU.

  • Swiss contribution of over EUR 16 million in decarbonisation investments in Slovenia

    Ministers Kumer and Jevšek signed a Support Measure Implementation Agreement under the Swiss-Slovenian Cooperation Programme. The Ministry of the Environment, Climate and Energy will direct funding towards agri-photovoltaic pilot projects, the digitalisation of local energy concepts, investments in energy communities and the replacement of fossil fuels with shallow geothermal energy in the heating sector.

  • EU funding for traffic optimisation in the Urban Municipality of Kranj

    The Ministry of Cohesion and Regional Development has approved EU funding for the project ITI Urban Municipality of Kranj Digital. The municipality will receive over €900,000 from the European Regional Development Fund to deploy digital solutions for traffic optimisation and promotion of sustainable mobility.

    Minister Jevšek met with the chairs of regional development councils and signed the first annex to the agreements on the development of region for all 12 development regions. The annex includes 98 projects worth altogether 347 million euros. The projects will receive 210 million euros in co-financing.

    Ljubljana, 10 April 2025 – The Ministry of Cohesion and Regional Development has approved EU funding for the call for proposals Incentives for the digital transformation of SMEs (P4D 2025). The call will come with a total budget of EUR 17.8 million; the contribution from the European Regional Development Fund will stand at EUR 15 million.

    Warsaw hosted an informal meeting of directors-general responsible for development cooperation and humanitarian aid in EU Member States, which was attended by Ambassador Edvin Skrt, Director-General for Development Cooperation and Humanitarian Aid at the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs.     Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Republic of Slovenia visited Benin on behalf the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs, Kaja Kallas, and held a series of talks with the country’s top officials and representatives of civil society.     148th regular session of the Government of the Republic of Slovenia

    At today's session, the Government adopted a proposal for the Higher Education Act, which aims to reform the higher education system.
