Minister Fajon visits Jožef Stefan Institute's Reactor Centre

Four years into the war in Ukraine: Slovenia remains committed to achieving a just and lasting peace
Russia’s brutal aggression against Ukraine began four years ago and constitutes a gross violation of international law and the UN Charter. “Slovenia condemns this aggression in the strongest and most unequivocal terms and stands by the people of Ukraine. We are committed to achieving a just and lasting peace, advocate respect for international law and demand accountability for the crimes committed,” emphasised Minister Fajon.

Minister Fajon: The war in Ukraine must end
On arrival at the Foreign Affairs Council in Brussels, Minister Tanja Fajon joined her counterparts in expressing support for Ukraine as it enters its fifth year of military aggression. Ministers wore sunflower brooches as a symbol of hope, peace, resistance and Ukrainian national identity. “The war in Ukraine must end,” Minister Fajon said.

EU funding for employee training approved
The Ministry of Cohesion and Regional Development has approved EU funding for the project Implementation of further vocational and professional development and training programmes in 2025-2029. The European Social Fund Plus will contribute 13.4 million euros to this large-scale project, which totals 20 million euros.

Elections – The Largest Civic Operation in the Country
The National Election Commission (NEC) is intensively preparing for the parliamentary elections to be held on 22 March 2026. To ensure the smooth conduct of the elections, approximately 20,000 people will be engaged at nearly 3000 polling stations across Slovenia, making this the largest civic operation in the country.

Key achievements of the 2022–2026 term: stabilisation and long-term structural change
The Government led by Robert Golob stabilised the country following a period of crisis marked by recovery from the pandemic, the energy crisis and rising living costs, and delivered extensive structural changes in healthcare, social security, housing, education, the green transition and regional development. At its session today, the Government approved a proposal for the fifth amendment to the Recovery and Resilience Plan (RRP). It tasked the Office of the Republic of Slovenia for Recovery and Resilience with submitting the amendment to the European Commission in Brussels, together with the relevant supporting documentation.

192nd regular session of the Government of the Republic of Slovenia
At today’s session, the Government adopted a decision to initiate the preparation of a National Spatial Plan for Krško Nuclear Power Plant – JEK2, approved a programme of development incentives for border problem areas, and took note of the preliminary report by the President of the Expert Council for the Evaluation of the Act Determining Emergency Measures to Ensure Public Security on the implementation of that Act.

EU funding approved for the integration of migrant children into the education system
The Ministry of Cohesion and Regional Development has approved EU funding for the project “Integration of Migrant Children, Pupils and Students into the Slovenian Education System”. The project, with a total value of EUR 7 million, will receive EUR 2.8 million from the European Social Fund Plus (ESF+).

Slovenia successfully reopened existing March 2036 bond via the international markets
On Monday, 16 February 2026, the Republic of Slovenia, rated A3 (positive) / AA (stable) / A+ (stable), successfully returned to international capital markets with a 750 million euros Reg S tap of the outstanding 1.75 billion euros 3.275 percent Note due 12 March 2036, bringing total new outstanding size to 2.50 billion euros.
