Jevšek: “New Faculty of Mechanical Engineering is investment in knowledge, innovation and long-term development of Slovenia”
Prior to the visit, the government held a session and gave green light to Slovenia’s Regional Development Strategy 2026-2050 which puts polycentric development at the heart of its agenda to strengthen all regional centres across the country.
In his statement to the media following the presentation of the project, Minister Jevšek pointed out that the project was one of major investments in higher education and science in the 2021-2027 period. “Total project value is 160 million euros with 32 million euros coming from the European Regional Development Fund. This is an operation of strategic importance that is included in Slovenia’s EU Cohesion Policy Programme 2021-2027 under Policy Objective 1 A more competitive and smarter Europe, for which a total of 727 million euros has been allocated.”
Better research capacities will unlock breakthrough results and a series of quality publications and patents, significantly improving conditions for the setting up of spin outs. In turn, this means new jobs, added value and increased competitiveness of Slovenian economy.
At Technology Park Ljubljana, Minister Jevšek met entrepreneurs who started their career and turned their ideas into reality with the help of the PONI project. The 1.54 million euro project is co-financed by the Republic of Slovenia and the European Union from the European Regional Development Fund, the contribution standing at 922,963.20 euros and 615,308.80 euros respectively.
Technology Park Ljubljana is a consortium partner in three projects that are also implemented under Slovenia’s EU Cohesion Policy Programme. Total indicative value of the three projects amounts to 4.9 million euros, of which 2.2 million euros will come from the European Union. A total of 230,253.34 euros has been ring fenced for Technology Park Ljubljana in this scope.
Government field visit ended with a joint meeting between the government, mayors and representatives of business community who discussed further development and key development priorities and opportunities in the Osrednjeslovenska region.
