Reception held for Sameh Shoukry, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Arab Republic of Egypt

Prime Minister Robert Golob today received the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Arab Republic of Egypt, Sameh Shoukry.

The main topic of their discussion was the war in Gaza. Minister Shoukry expressed his strong support for Slovenia's principled positions on the Middle East and expressed his wish to continue close cooperation within the UN. He briefed the Prime Minister on the formation of a Palestinian government of technocrats and the current situation, particularly with regard to the issue of the displacement of Palestinian civilians from Gaza.

Both agreed that UNRWA assistance is crucial, and that there is no alternative to this agency. They expressed strong support for a two-state solution as the only possible way to achieve peace in the Middle East.

Minister Shoukry also underlined Egypt's desire to further develop relations with Slovenia, particularly in the field of energy, which the Prime Minister supported.
