Slovenia has surpassed its set objectives at Expo and the first results are already apparent, as companies are concluding business deals and tourist agencies from the United Arab Emirates are inquiring about package tours in Slovenia.

All of the above reveals that the decision to attend Expo was correct, said Zdravko Počivalšek, Minister of Economic Development and Technology, at today’s presentation of the achievements at Expo.

As stated by Počivalšek in his video address at the presentation, which took place in Ljubljana, "when making the decision to participate at Expo, we knew that we would be addressing the entire world in Dubai, particularly the countries of the Persian Gulf, Asia and Africa. The participation at Expo was the largest presentation of the Slovenian economy in the history of Slovenia, and is already producing results. Companies are reporting new business deals and agreements, but that is only the beginning," Počivalšek asserted. The Slovenian pavilion, which will stay in Dubai, is planned to become the central point of the Slovenian economy in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and the region, emphasised the Minister.

Dubai’s Expo hosted 24,102,967 visitors and more than two hundred million people made a virtual tour of the exhibition. The organisers highlighted that they were very pleased with the visit, and they also attained their objective of attracting between 23 and 25 million visitors. This is a great accomplishment, as many countries experienced lockdowns for the greater part of Expo due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which hindered travel. Despite the one-year postponement because of the pandemic, Expo still bore the title 2020 and attracted 192 countries, which is the highest number in the history of world exhibitions. For the first time, each country had its own pavilion. For comparison, 141 countries were featured in Milan in 2015, which hosted 21.5 million visitors.

In Dubai, Slovenia was showcased under the slogan, "Slovenia. Green Smart Experience.", as a sustainable, modern, creative and future-oriented country which combines a green environment, knowledge, breakthrough ideas, innovations and an economy with added value. The aim of attending Expo was to place Slovenia on the global map as a sustainable and highly technological and innovative country, promote the Slovenian economy and Slovenia as a tourist destination and increase the presence of Slovenian products and services in the market of the United Arab Emirates and globally.
