These stamps showcase the charm of Slovenia’s capital, wrote the Slovenian Embassy in Paris on Twitter, adding that the works of architect Jože Plečnik are inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

The selected works of Jože Plečnik in Ljubljana were listed in summer 2021. They include the following seven components of Plečnik’s Ljubljana: the embankments and bridges of the Ljubljanica river, extending from the Trnovo district to the Sluice Gate, the Trnovo Bridge, Vegova Street with the National and University Library, Congress Square with Zvezda Park, the Roman Wall, the Žale Garden of All Saints, the Church of St Michael in Črna vas and the Church of St Francis of Assisi in Ljubljana’s Šiška district.

Furthermore, to mark the 150th anniversary of the birth of architect Jože Plečnik, the Slovenian Government declared 2022 the Year of Plečnik. The recent inscription of selected works of Plečnik in Ljubljana on the UNESCO World Heritage List represents a valuable international recognition for the protection and appreciation of architectural heritage important for humanity as a whole, and at the same time a commitment to protect it even more carefully and to integrate it into contemporary life.
