State Secretary Stanislav Raščan participated in the extraordinary meeting of the Permanent Council of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) convened by Poland’s Chairmanship of the organisation in response to the decision taken by the President of the Russian Federation Putin to recognise the “independence” of the eastern Ukrainian regions of Donetsk and Luhansk. This decision violates international law and the OSCE’s fundamental principles.

Slovenia expresses its full support for the territorial integrity of Ukraine within its internationally recognised borders. In its statement and supplementary to the EU statement, Slovenia condemned the decision by the Russian President to recognise the “independence” of Donetsk and Luhansk and send Russian military forces to the region. By taking this decision, the Russian Federation is also acting in violation of United Nations Security Council Resolution 2202 and the Minsk Agreement. “Such violations will not remain without consequences”, asserted State Secretary Raščan at the meeting.
