International Mountain Day

11 December, the International Mountain Day, was designated by the United Nations General Assembly in 2003 to highlight the importance of mountains for life, and the conservation and protection of biodiversity in terms of sustainable development of mountain areas.

17 % of municipalities in Slovenia are in mountain area

In Slovenia, 35 tourist municipalities (17%) are mountainous. In 2020, just over a million tourist arrivals and only 2.8 million overnight stays were recorded in them. On average, foreign tourists stay much longer than domestic tourists - only exceptions are July and August 2021.
