Minister Logar attends extraordinary FAC meeting and calls for immediate cessation of violence in Israel and Palestine

Minister of Foreign Affairs Anže Logar today attended an extraordinary videoconference of the EU Foreign Affairs Council. High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell convened the meeting to discuss the escalation of tensions in Gaza, Hamas rocket attacks on Israel and the growing number of civilian casualties. The EU foreign ministers also discussed potential EU assistance in defusing tensions.

The ministers called for an immediate end to violence and for protection of the civilian population, while advocating an active EU role in the process of de-escalation. Minister Logar expressed concern over the situation in Israel and Palestine, the Hamas rocket attacks and the escalation of violence. He stressed that the unacceptable brutality must end immediately to prevent further loss of civilian lives. The Minister also voiced concern about the potential impact of the current events on peace and stability in the region, calling for unity and active EU involvement in seeking a peaceful solution together with partners from the region concerned and beyond. Minister Logar is convinced that negotiations are the only way to achieve a just and lasting peace based on Palestine-Israel common principles and to fulfil their legitimate expectations.
