Minister Logar with Bavarian State Minister Huml on strengthening cooperation

Minister of Foreign Affairs Anže Logar held talks via videoconference with the Bavarian State Minister for European and International Affairs Melanie Huml. Their discussion focused on the activities aimed at strengthening political, economic, and regional cooperation with Bavaria in light of the COVID-19 pandemic and the upcoming Slovenian EU Council Presidency.

Minister Logar and State Minister Huml confirmed traditionally excellent relations between Slovenia and Bavaria, which is Slovenia's third most important economic partners among German states with EUR 2 billion of mutual trade annually. The two ministers welcomed the long-standing cooperation in the framework of the Permanent Slovenian-Bavarian Commission.

The main purpose of the meeting was to plan Minister Logar's visit to Bavaria scheduled for 22 June this year. In parallel with the minister's visit, the 32nd session of the Permanent Slovenian-Bavarian Commission is scheduled to take place on 21 and 22 June in Munich. Both ministers agreed that the meeting will provide the perfect opportunity to exchange views and experience on the challenges we are currently facing.

As regards topical European issues, the ministers exchanged information on measures implemented to overcome the COVID-19 pandemic. Minister Logar went on to outline the key priorities of Slovenia's EU Council Presidency in the second half of this year, and extended an invitation to Minister President of Bavaria Markus Söder for a visit to Slovenia when the situation allows.
