US Secretary of State Pompeo to visit Slovenia

  • Ministry of Foreign Affairs
US Secretary of State Michael R. Pompeo will be visiting Slovenia next week. The purpose of the visit is to intensify the high-level relations, which have stalled during the past few years, and to deepen the close friendly relations between the two allies and partner states, Slovenia and the USA. Another aim of the visit is to enhance the high-level bilateral political dialogue and strengthen cooperation in business and other areas.

The last bilateral visit of a US Secretary of State to Slovenia took place in 1997, while the last US visit at the highest level occurred in 2008 during Slovenia’s first Presidency of the Council of the EU, when President George W. Bush attended the EU–USA Summit at Brdo pri Kranju.

Foreign Minister Anže Logar and US Secretary of State Michael R. Pompeo will sign a joint statement between Slovenia and the USA on 5G network safety.

The programme of the visit is being coordinated and will be available later on.
