Melita Šinkovec, born on 28. 3. 1978, is a Master of Science in Defence Studies. After graduating from grammar school she took up studies at the College of Police and Security Studies in 1997. She expanded her knowledge of the functioning and structure of the national security system during the Master of Defence Studies at the Faculty of Social Sciences in Ljubljana. In 2004 she took up employment at the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Slovenia and performed various tasks in the area of defence-related multilateral cooperation with the South-East European countries, Slovenia’s participation in international operations and missions, and business planning.
During Slovenia’s preparations for EU Council Presidency and during the Presidency she worked at the Permanent Representation of the Republic of Slovenia to the EU in Brussels. She was deployed twice to NATO’s ISAF mission in Afghanistan, acting as a civilian expert on civil-military cooperation. She participated in NATO’s mission in Kosovo as a special political adviser to the KFOR commander. From 14 September 2018 she was the Head of the Minister’s Office at the Ministry of the Interior.
