Valerija Jelen Kosi, born on February 25, 1973, graduated with honors from the Faculty of Law in Ljubljana, where she also completed her master's degree.

She began her judicial career at the District Court in Ljubljana, and since 2014 she has been a senior judge at the Commercial Department of the High Court in Ljubljana. In 2016, she was additionally assigned to the Supreme Court of the Republic of Slovenia to manage a project to improve the quality of the Slovenian judiciary, which in 2019 received the Council of Europe and the European Union's Crystal Scales of Justice award and many other domestic and foreign awards. In 2021, the Supreme Court awarded her a diploma for above-average work success and for successfully completing demanding projects in the field of justice.

As an expert, in recent years she also worked in the working group for quality at the Council of Europe and in this context produced several studies on the topic of improving quality in the judiciary. In the light of her extensive experience, she is also a deputy external member of the Slovenian interdepartmental working group for the coordination of the enforcement of judgments of the European Court of Human Rights.

Valerija Jelen Kosi previously worked at the Ministry of Justice as the director of the Center for Judicial Education, and is also a member of the Council for Alternative Dispute Resolution at the Ministry of Justice. Since 2012, she has been active in the field of mediation as a mediator and trainer of new mediators. She is the co-author of the book "Mediation in theory and practice" and the author of the "Guide for new judges". She regularly publishes her professional articles and contributions in professional literature in the field of law and participates as a lecturer in domestic and foreign judicial education events.
