Dr Dominika Švarc Pipan holds a doctorate in political science (University of Ljubljana), a master's degree in public international law (London School of Economics) and a bachelor's degree in law (University of Ljubljana). She is the Vice-President of the Social Democrats and has been running her own legal and business consultancy since the end of her parental leave in September 2021; she is an external consultant at the Drolec Sladojević law firm and an external senior research fellow at the Institute for Security and Development Policy in Stockholm. Since 2007, she has also been a lecturer at the NATO Centre of Excellence for Defence against Terrorism in Ankara. From 2018 to 2020, she was State Secretary at the Ministry of Justice. Before that she was a lecturer at the American University in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Vice-President of the Adriatic Council. From 2010 to 2016, she worked as a prosecutor at the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia and the Residual Mechanism for International Criminal Tribunals, and as an associate at the International Criminal Court in The Hague. She has 20 years of academic, practical and consulting experience in the fields of international law, human rights, international dispute resolution, investment and commercial arbitration, combating terrorism, and information technology law. In these areas, she has worked with many international organisations, governmental and non-governmental institutions and corporations. She has worked as a lecturer and researcher at universities in Slovenia, the UK, Germany, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the Netherlands. She has published over 50 scientific and professional articles in international and Slovenian publications, including with renowned publishers such as Oxford University Press and Cambridge University Press, and presented over 100 papers at national and international conferences. She is fluent in English, Serbian, Bosnian and Croatian, communicates well in German and Spanish, and has passive knowledge of French and Dutch.
