State Secretary for political and multilateral affairs and development cooperation
Sanja Štiglic

Ambassador Sanja Štiglic was appointed State Secretary for Political Affairs, Multilateral and Development Cooperation on 1 October 2023.

Prior to her appointment she was Director-General for Multilateral Cooperation at the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs.

She served as Ambassador of the Republic of Slovenia in the Kingdom of the Netherlands and Permanent Representative of the Republic of Slovenia to the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) from 2017 to 2022.

She was State Secretary for European Affairs, Bilateral Relations with EU Countries and Economic Diplomacy at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2016-2017).

She also served as Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Slovenia to the United Nations in New York from 2007 to 2012. She was elected Vice-President of the 64th Session of the UN General Assembly (2009-2010) and President of the Executive Board of UNICEF (2011).

Ambassador Štiglic is a career diplomat and held different positions at the Ministry as Director-General, Head of Departments and Head of the Minister's Office. She also served at Slovenia’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York and was her country’s Alternate Representative to the UN Security Council (1998 -1999).

Born in 1970, Štiglic holds a law degree from the University of Ljubljana, Slovenia. She speaks English, German, Croatian and Spanish.
