State Celebrations Office
The State Celebrations Office is responsible for the organisation of state celebrations and ceremonies of national importance and performs other tasks determined by the Coordination Committee for State Celebrations and Ceremonies and approved by the Government of the Republic of Slovenia. On the Committee’s proposal, the Government of the Republic of Slovenia every year adopts a calendar of state celebrations, which includes celebrations on the occasion of national holidays and anniversaries of important political, cultural and historical events, and other events of national importance.
In addition to being responsible for the organisation of events, the State Celebrations Office cooperates with state authorities that are responsible for security, protocol and communication with the media, the Slovenian Armed Forces, the Police and other authorities.
The State Celebrations Office has operated as part of the Ministry of Culture since 2009. Until 2005, the organisation of state celebrations and other events of national importance was the responsibility of the then Government Public Relations and Media Office. In 2005, the organisation of state celebrations fell under the responsibility of the State Celebrations Division, which was part of the Protocol Service of the Republic of the Republic of Slovenia and was renamed the State Celebrations Office at the Ministry of Culture in 2009.
In the past 15 years, the Office (formerly the Division) has organised over 120 state celebrations and other major events of national and international importance.
