Born 4 April 1974
Dr Anja Kopač was born in Kranj, where she completed grammar school (gimnazija) education. She graduated from the University of Ljubljana's Faculty of Social Sciences in the Sociology programme focusing on HR management. In 2004 she gained her doctorate in the field of social policy, where she addressed issues related to reform of the social state.
From 2008 to 2012 she was State Secretary at the Ministry of Labour, Family, Social Affairs and Equal Opportunities, and from March 2013 to September 2018 she was Minister of Labour, Family, Social Affairs and Equal Opportunities.
She is also an assistant professor of sociology and a lecturer at the University of Ljubljana's Faculty of Social Sciences. She lectures in European social policy. She is the author of numerous academic works in the field of social policy and employment policy, including a book entitled “Aktivacija – obrat v socialni politiki” (Activation – a Turnaround in Social Policy). In the years prior to 2008 she worked as an expert in the field of pensions and other aspects of social policy and employment policy in the EU.
