The Directorate for Multilateral Affairs, Development Cooperation and International Law is responsible for the implementation of Slovenia’s foreign policy objectives in the area of multilateral political relations and within the United Nations, the North Atlantic Alliance, the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, the Council of Europe, and other international organisations.

It provides analytical support in the formulation of Slovenia’s foreign policy decisions, participates in the formulation and implementation of Slovenian foreign policy in the area of international peace and security, monitors current global challenges, and promotes the strengthening of and respect for the highest human rights standards at the international level.

It plans policies on international development cooperation and humanitarian assistance at the national and international levels and coordinates and monitors the implementation of Slovenia’s development and humanitarian assistance. It considers topical issues in international law and co-directs Slovenia’s entering into international contractual relationships and other forms of international cooperation.
